Overview

Quality wines need a lengthy aging process to get the right flavor, aroma and texture. Some acquisition processes also take time to reach maturity. The collaboration between LaNubia and Aiden in professional services (PS24) is a prime example of this. Initial contacts between the two companies date back two and a half years. But all good things come to those who wait, according to owner Rigo Selassa. "I already got a great impression of Aiden at the first meeting," he explains. "When the time was right, we joined forces and successfully implemented PS24 together."

As a management consultant at a leading financial services company, Rigo Selassa was running ERP projects for major clients. However, the daily turmoil seemed to be wearing him down. The need for a sabbatical arose, and Curaçao was also drawing him in. Here he wanted to realize his dream: build a villa for his family. "My employer didn't want to pay for my sabbatical," he continued. "That's why I quit my job in 2014, moved to my native land, and started working for myself as a freelancer."

Cloud solutions in SAP

And LaNubia was born. The choice of this name was deliberate, as lanubia means 'the cloud' in Spanish. With his new company in Curaçao, Rigo Selassa focuses on cloud solutions in SAP for the business transformations of companies. "We see it as a challenge to bridge the gap between information technology and business," he explains. "In our innovative approach, data science plays a crucial role. Our consultants use data and process analysis to make strategic decisions. For example, they use models to create risk profiles, predict future maintenance, and ultimately improve customer service."

From its office in Curaçao, LaNubia initially focused on customers in the Caribbean and South America. Currently, the company also has a European branch in the Netherlands. And plans for a branch in India — to serve the Asian market — are on the horizon. "When you run multiple intercontinental projects, the need for a powerful ERP system to streamline all the processes among the regions grows," he continues. "In our search for the right system for professional services, we once again came to Aiden. The relationship is good and there is mutual trust. We decided to run a pilot of PS24 together with project managers, key users and consultants."

Division of roles

As a consultant, of course, Rigo Selassa has gained plenty of experience with SAP. But he lacked detailed knowledge of SAP Business ByDesign, the platform on which PS24 is based. This detailed technical knowledge is abundantly present at Aiden. To fill this gap, LaNubia and Aiden therefore opted for a division of roles that enables the strengths of both companies to come into their own. "The people at Aiden take care of the technical implementation of PS24," explains Rigo Selassa. "They fine-tune PS24 the way we think the system should work in practice. Meanwhile, in training sessions, LaNubia teaches key users how to use the system."

Successful pilot

The pilot of PS24 covers 2 months: the test phase takes place in December 2020 and the start-up phase in January 2021. The people at LaNubia were impressed with the 24-hour time frame in which the specialists had the cloud application running at a technical level. After those 24 hours, the real work begins. "The power of a cloud application is that it always works," says Rigo Selassa. "It is important, however, to properly prepare the business for this. After all, there are large cultural differences between Curaçao, the Netherlands and India in the way of working and the applicable laws and regulations."

Simplifying and streamlining processes

According to Rigo Selassa, it was a challenge to simplify and streamline the work instructions and procedures so that everyone could work with them. "Consider an identical way of time registration, invoicing and reporting. Aiden's team has been very helpful to us in this standardization process. If this adoption of the application succeeds, we will have the most important key to success."

So, out of nowhere, LaNubia teamed up with Aiden to implement a standard application. After the successful pilot period, it is now time to take PS24 to the next level as a tool. "The optimization process contains two pillars: a technology component and a business component," explains Rigo Selassa. "We are now taking on the challenge of fine-tuning the application step by step. First, we bring the tool to the desired level at the process level. From there, we will take follow-up steps. No doubt we'll run into technical issues in the process, in which case we'll gladly enlist Aiden's help and expertise."

The same language

Rigo Selassa looks back with great pleasure on his work with Aiden's project manager and consultants. He sees many similarities in the way the two companies work. "It's very pleasant when you speak the same language, can philosophize about the pros and cons of certain options, and only need half a word to make decisions," he summarizes. "Our SME customers will also be able to reap the benefits of our collaboration in the future, with Aiden contributing the necessary knowledge and experience at the system level and LaNubia at the process level. The rapid implementation and setup of PS24 is an attractive, cost-effective investment for many businesses. So I am convinced that we will continue to join forces in the future."
